Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Development and Leadership

The purpose of the Level 3 Sports Development and Leadership is to develop and progress students towards their intended career pathway of working within development and leadership within the sports industry. The course looks to develop an understanding of a variety of key principles in sport, covering fitness, development and coaching as specific areas of focus.
During their academic journey students will be provided with opportunities and experiences which will aid their development and help them engage with those from the industry they are aiming to progress in to as a career, which would include coaching, fitness instructing, sports science, and teaching.
Successful completion of Year 1 will see learners receive a Foundation Diploma, which can be topped up to an Extended Diploma by completing Year 2.
Year 1 Units: Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness Training, Professional Development in the Sports Industry, Sports Leadership, Practical Sports Performance, Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport and Sports Event Organisation.
Year 2 Units: Coaching for Performance, Research Methods, Sports Development, Investigating Business, Skill Acquisition, Sports Psychology and Technical and Tactical Demands of Sport.
Your timetable will also consist of tutorial sessions, learning support sessions and (if required) English and Maths.

4 GCSE’s 9-4 (including English Language and Mathematics). Qualifications may also be supplemented by the successful completion of a Level 2 Sport BTEC qualification.
Assessments are conducted in a variety of ways. You will be assessed by external exams for 2 of your units each year. The rest of the assessments can consist of assignment based assessment, observations, presentations and interviews.
Following completion of this course you can either progress onto University, an Apprenticeship or Sports Specific Employment.
The development and leadership pathway provides a chance for students to develop skills, knowledge and experience which could lead to career in; sports coaching, sports development, PE teaching, activities leader, swimming teacher, sports event organisation and many others.
