What You Will Study

Land-Based Technicians carry out a range of tasks on land-based machinery equipment. The job role ranges from routine maintenance to repairing mechanical faults. This requires a blend of skills, industry knowledge and disciplines.

These may include performing service and maintenance, preparing equipment and components for repair according to procedures or written briefs, conducting routine machine operation and systems testing, and handing over machinery and equipment to the control and use of others in the workplace. The industry will present technical challenges ranging from simple mechanics to diagnosing and repairing complex systems. These processes may take place in the workplace or on the customer’s site, requiring flexible working hours.

On our City and Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Land-Based Engineering you will study the following disciplines: health and safety at work, engine operation, transmissions, hydraulics, vehicle electrics, fabrication, work shop practices, machinery operations and working in the land-based engineering industry.
