This dynamic qualification is your launchpad into the arboriculture, forestry, woodland management, and environmental sectors - industries where skilled professionals are in high demand.
You will build your expertise through a rich mix of classroom learning, hands-on practical work, site visits, and real-world scenarios that bring your training to life. The course blends theory and practice across carefully selected subject units that complement and build upon each other, ensuring continuous progress and confidence in your abilities.
You will dive into topics such as tree inspection and surveys, advanced arboricultural skills, plant and soil science, chainsaw operations, and tree establishment and aftercare - each designed to prepare you for the challenges and opportunities of the natural environment.

Entry Requirements
You will need to achieve four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language, maths and science.
How You Will Be Assessed
The course is assessed with a mixture of practical and written tasks throughout each year. This includes synoptic assessments (60%) - a selection of projects that require practical demonstration accompanied by recorded justifications. A typical example of a synoptic task would be to ‘survey a woodland and produce a report on how to increase its biodiversity’.
There is also an end of year exam (40%). Both synoptic and exam assessments must be passed to achieve this qualification.
Course Progression
On successful completion of this course you may wish to progress on to a degree-level course or Apprenticeship in a related subject. Alternatively you may gain employment in the industry.
Where Your Course Can Take You
You could work in roles such as arboriculturist, forestry worker, country estate worker, countryside/conservation contractor, woodland manager and tree officer.
