What You Will Study
If you’re passionate about horses and want to begin your journey into the equine industry, this entry-level course is a fantastic starting point. Delivered in a supportive, small-group setting, the Level 1 Diploma in Horse Care helps you build confidence, learn practical skills, and prepare for future study or employment.
You’ll gain hands-on experience and learn how to:
- Safely handle and work with horses in different environments
- Carry out routine stable management tasks such as mucking out and grooming
- Put on and adjust rugs, tack up horses, and clean equipment
- Understand basic horse behaviour, health, and welfare
- Complete routine health checks and maintain safe working practices
Lessons are a mix of practical sessions in our equine facilities and classroom-based learning, helping you build both your knowledge and confidence.
This course also helps you develop transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, and responsibility — all essential for working in the equine industry or progressing to further study.
If you do not have a grade 4 or above in English and/or maths, you will study these subjects alongside your course.
You will need to purchase PPE for the Equine Centre – full details will be provided at enrolment. You’ll be working in all weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors, helping to ensure our horses receive the highest standards of care.
This course is a great way to start your journey with horses, build practical skills, and explore a future in the equine industry — all in a friendly and supportive environment.
