What You Will Study

Whether you're just starting out in horticulture or aiming to take your gardening passion to a professional level, this course is designed to develop your existing knowledge and practical experience to meet industry standards. By the end of the programme, you'll gain an industry-recognised Level 2 qualification, helping you take the next step in your horticultural career.

What you will learn:

  • Planting techniques for container-grown trees, shrubs, and perennials
  • How to identify plants using their botanical names
  • Assessing and improving soil texture and condition
  • Identifying common pests, diseases, and the damage they cause
  • Seasonal garden care and maintenance
  • Designing a basic garden layout and planting plan
  • Year-round lawn care practices
  • Propagation methods and techniques
  • Safe and effective use of horticultural tools, machinery, and equipment
  • Customer service skills, including offering advice and preparing quotes
  • Fundamentals of soil science

This course will run one day a week.

Entry Requirements

This course is open to applicants aged 19 and over. There are no specific prior achievements required to take this qualification, and you may or may not have had previous experience in horticulture. This qualification will allow you to develop and practise the skills required for employment and progression within the wide and varied horticulture sector.

How You Will Be Assessed

Assessment is by observation of practical performance and underpinning knowledge questioning by an oral/written task

Where Your Course Can Take You

You will be prepared for work in gardens, parks, charities and community gardens, or you can gain employment in the gardening and landscaping industry.
