What You Will Study
This qualification is for individuals who use chainsaws as part of their work in arboriculture, forestry or other industries. It will provide the individual with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to use chainsaws from a rope and harness safely and to industry standards in line with current legislation.
You will cover:
- Risk assessment
- Emergency planning
- Legislation
- Industry best practice
- Environmental considerations
- Tree condition
- Tools and equipment
- Pruning techniques
- Pruning from a rope and harness
This is a two-day course and replaces the old qualification CS39.
You will need to bring the following:
- None snag clothing
- Arborists climbing, chainsaw protective boots.
You are welcome to bring your own 'top handle' saw and use your own climbing equipment, but climbing equipment must have an in date LOLER check, or be under six months old, and be checked by the trainer. The college has a good selection of the latest climbing equipment for learners to familiarise themselves with.
Entry Requirements
For 0039-23 (Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness) you need to have passed:
- 0020-03 (now 0039-20) Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-Cutting
- 0020-04 (now 0039-21) Felling Small Trees up to 380mm
- 0020-13 (now 0039-22) Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue
How You Will Be Assessed
The assessment is carried out by NPTC and is separate to the training days.
