What You Will Study
This T Level course focuses on the management and care of trees within urban and rural environments, while developing the technical knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours needed for a career in the industry.
Alongside learning about tree biology, legislation, business practice and ethical conduct, you will gain an understanding of the important role trees play in supporting biodiversity, environmental sustainability and community wellbeing.
A significant part of the programme is practical and industry-focused, providing training in machinery operation, ground-based and aerial chainsaw use, and safe tree climbing practices. You will develop skills in maintaining and managing trees, carrying out pruning and dismantling operations, operating equipment such as brushwood chippers, and working safely around infrastructure including highways, railways, watercourses and power lines. The course also covers the establishment and maintenance of young trees, the care of mature and heritage trees, and the identification and management of pests and diseases.
Throughout the programme, you will learn how sustainable tree management can enhance environmental, social and aesthetic outcomes, while developing the knowledge required to support tree health and longevity. To complement your studies, you will complete a minimum of 315 hours of industry placement over the two-year programme, ensuring you gain valuable real-world experience and are well prepared for employment or further study within the arboriculture sector.
Entry Requirements
- Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English language, maths and science.
How You Will Be Assessed
You will be assessed through a combination of externally set and marked components to ensure your knowledge and skills meet industry standards.
This includes:
- Two externally set and externally marked exams covering core knowledge and concepts.
- One externally set, externally moderated assignment focusing on applied understanding.
- An externally set and moderated synoptic assessment, where you’ll demonstrate your practical and theoretical skills across real-life scenarios.
- 315 hours of industry placement – gaining hands-on experience in professional settings over the two years.
These assessments are designed to prepare you for the demands of working in the tree and woodland management sector.
Course Progression
On successful completion of this course you may wish to progress on to a degree-level course or Apprenticeship in a related subject. Alternatively you may gain employment in the industry.

The Arboriculture T Level will enable you to enter the industry with the occupational competencies required to be a confident professional and start a career that works towards employment in variety of job roles, such as:
- Arboriculturist
- Tree officer
- Forestry worker
- Woodland manager
- Country estate worker
- Countryside/ conservation contractor
- Self employed business owner
Fees
