The course is designed as a 'step into college' programme, which is about supporting individuals in developing their personal and social skills, while studying their chosen vocation, which in this case is Sport. This small group provision introduces students to the college setting as well as to the Sport, Outdoor Leadership and Uniformed Services department, whilst also developing transferable skills which can be used in employment and independent living. The students study programme will include:

  • Entry 3 Sport Qualification
  • Entry 3 Employability Qualification
  • English and/ or Maths at GCSE or Functional Skills
  • Academic Tutorial
  • Personal Development
  • Community Project.

This course is ideal for someone that is looking to progress to a higher qualification in the future, but may have individual reasons why they may not have achieved formal qualifications or potentially not feel ready for large group, mainstream college qualifications.

Entry Requirements

This course has no formal entry requirements and is ideal as an entry qualification into the Sport, Outdoor Leadership and Uniformed Services department. Students will be assessed individually to determine if this is the right course for them. This will through:

  • Application
  • 1-1 Interview with the Course Leader
  • Attendance at a Taster Day
  • Reference

Students will need to complete a successful interview and assessment to demonstrate they are able to work in a mainstream college. Students from a supported provision should apply with our Inclusive Learning department so that they have a suitable transition into mainstream education.

You will be assessed through a variety of methods for internally assessed mandatory and optional units. Assessment methods could include assignments, research projects, presentations, role plays, group discussions and participation in team activities.

On successful completion all elements of the Study Programme, students will have the opportunity to progress to a suitable course within the college. Students will need to meet the entry qualifications for their chosen course progression and have a good assignment, behaviour and attendance record.

Career Progression

Throughout your time at Easton, the course aims to:

  • Provide a platform to develop a range of personal, social and industry relatable skills.
  • A chance to showcase their knowledge and skills of sport, leadership and development, in preparation for your next positive destination.
  • Give learners the potential opportunity, in due course, to enter employment within a wide range of junior job roles across the sport development and leadership sector.

With these points considered, the course also intends for each student to make new positive connections within their community and be a valued, effective member of society.
