Summary

The course will be aimed to give you comprehensive grounding in basic Carpentry skills. Provide you with the experience to develop your confidence using hand tools and power tools and develop your hand skills regarding basic first and second fix carpentry tasks, such as installation of skirting and mouldings, installation of doors and ironmongery. You will receive a certificate of attendance.

Suitable for anyone who has a genuine interest in the construction industry and is wanting to learn a new basic trade skill. Each applicant will be expected to be seeking to learn the basics of first and second fix carpentry trade skills.

  • Week one health and safety, formularisation of hand and power tools
  • Week two understanding the basic principles of carpentry joints, refining hand skills.
  • Week three installation of skirting and mouldings.
  • Week four installation of ironmongery, locks, and hinges.
  • Week five internal door installation or other carpentry related tasks.
  • Week six refining hand skills and extension tasks.

One evening, per week, with both practical and theory content included.

Please bring safety boots and coveralls.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required for this course, all tools and equipment are provided. However, you will need to provide your own safety footwear, to be worn in our workshops, and old clothes. It is expected in the first instance that the applicant will have a genuine interest in the construction industry and be prepared to attend all evening sessions.
